Reducing social inequalities in health

Purpose and areas of support
The aim of the programme is to identify determinants of social inequalities in health, as well as subsequent development of cross-sectoral strategies for reducing health inequalities, and development of health promotion / disease prevention models aimed at reducing these inequalities.

Those factors include both general socio-economic factors such as unjust society income distribution, unequal chances at school and at work, improper conditions of raising children, healthcare system functioning, as well as factors related directly to specific health behaviour such as tobacco use, alcohol abuse or improper diet.

Pre-defined project
The implementation of the programme will begin from pre-defined project "Reducing social inequalities in health" with a value of EUR 2 918 900.The project will be implemented by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Norwegian Directorate of Health. The result of the project will be a cross-sectoral strategy aimed at reducing social inequalities in health as well as health needs assessment models and programmes of health promotion and health prevention. The pre-defined project will also provide for training courses aimed at the following target groups: medical faculty, medical staff, employees of local governments and NGOs.

Calls for proposals
Models of health needs assessment together with health promotion and health prevention programmes for local communities developed under a pre-defined project will form the basis for an open call for proposals (allocation: EUR 12 556 600) for comprehensive programmes at the poviat level, related to social and environmental aspects of health promotion / health prevention (ie. associated with health risk factors such as smoking, physical activity, mental health, but also with accidents, etc., depending on the results of the assessment of health needs).

Value of the grant and co-financing level
Projects will be funded at the level of 100% of eligible costs. The value of the grant will amount from EUR 300 000 to EUR 1 000 000.
